Any wrong report from Delhi will mean – a faulty status report and therefore the most trusted man must be the ears and eyes of DK Shivakumar. The job is to speak the truth – just report matters to the CM as it is without any inference.
Experts say Jobin is the right man for the job.
But it is an unusual administrative move, Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has indeed appointed Jobin Joseph as his Personal Representative in New Delhi, marking what is believed to be the first such appointment by a Karnataka Chief Minister in recent years. Unlike the official post of the State Government’s Special Representative in Delhi, Joseph’s assignment is personal in nature and will be carried out on a pro bono basis, without salary or government perks. Sources said Joseph will operate from the Chief Minister’s office in New Delhi and facilitate coordination with central agencies, ministries and key political stakeholders, providing Shivakumar with a direct channel of engagement in the national capital.
The appointment has drawn attention due to its unconventional nature, with observers seeking clarity on the scope, authority and accountability associated with the role. Traditionally, Karnataka has appointed official state representatives in Delhi, including senior Congress leader TB Jayachandran under the Siddaramaiah government and MLA Appaji Nadagouda between 2014 and 2018.Political analysts say that while enhanced coordination with the Centre is crucial for securing funds, project approvals and policy clearances, the creation of a personal and unpaid representative’s post raises the question of balance between two information source the existing official state machinery in Delhi and Jobin’s place within the broader governance framework.
