Hate crimes have increased drastically : Dr.Garima Pal

The recent incident of Asad stabbing and killing his friend Surya Chauhan has rocked the conscience of the nation and deeply hurt the sentiments of people all around. The police got into action mode and nabbed the convict he had committed cold blooded murder. CCTV footage and eyewitness had given enough evidence to police to nab the first timer in the world of crime and probably the last. He was shot by the police in self defence and he died while being treated in the hospital. Two young boys gone for ever. In another case of hate crime Arbaaz was stabbed to death by Saurabh and associates. Hate will kill many more if not checked in time said Rakesh Tripathi a very senior journalist who had worked with the BBC. There must be some antidote to this poison spreading in our society said Renu a journalist known for human interest stories and spiritual stories.

The crime committed by a young boy indicated two things – he was filled with hatred against his own friend. Experts say the filth and hate shown on television news channels and reels poison the mind of the youth of our country. Experts feel that crime story should not be coloured on communal lines. This will lead to more hatred and more crime.

Dr. Garima a professor of law in Mumbai told our agency that hate crimes have increased drastically over the past decade. She says even cases of child abuse and violence against women has also increased. She says it’s important to educate our men. Dr. Garima says that we can not blame the media or the political leaders for this unfortunate situation, she says we are all responsible for it.Garima says schools must have special chapters on anger management and yoga. NGO must work on slum kids also who do not get parental support and guidance.

Talking about increase in live in relationship she says it’s a personal choice and the law of the land doesn’t force anyone to get married. It’s a personal choice. She points out that bad marriages have often culminated in scenes of grotesque crime. This has also triggerd the psyche of the youth of our country to avoid marriage. They are scared to face the negative outcome of a commited relationship.

Finally she says education is important. She says we all need counselling at some point in our life when things appear blurred. She even asked me to change the mind set and accept the youth as they are.

Thanks Garima for your honest and authentic opinion. Like a mirror you reflected the truth without any distortion.

Same day another hate crime incident

News Flash

Arbaaz was also a victim of hate crime – now his family members are asking for justice.

Eid celebrations turned into a tragedy for a family in North West Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area when a 26-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death following a petty dispute over a cigarette. The victim, identified as Arbaaz, was a resident of C-Block in Jahangirpuri and worked at a local jewellery shop. According to his family, he was the sole earning member of his family.

The incident occurred around 11 PM on Thursday near his residence. While his family was celebrating the festival, Arbaaz got into an argument with some local youths. The verbal altercation quickly escalated, and the accused repeatedly stabbed him with knives, leaving him in a pool of blood.

He was taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital, where doctors declared him dead during treatment. The sudden demise of the young man converted the festive atmosphere of his home into deep mourning. “They had been planning to kill my brother for the past week. The dispute had started over a cigarette. When they found him alone in the lane, they pushed him and, when he resisted, they stabbed him with a knife,” said Mohammad Rizwan, the deceased’s brother.

He alleged that six minors and an adult were involved in the crime, and the adult was also involved in another murder case that occurred a year ago. “My brother called me, saying that some boys had surrounded him and asked me to come quickly. By the time I reached, they had already cornered him and started assaulting him. I tried to pull the main accused away, but another boy stabbed my brother two to three times. The incident took place around 11 pm. There were six to seven people involved,” said Taufiq, another brother of the deceased. Based on eyewitness accounts and local intelligence, the police later apprehended three minors in connection with the murder.

A thorough investigation has been launched to ascertain the exact sequence of events and understand how a minor dispute escalated into such a heinous crime. In order to prevent any communal or local tension and maintain law and order, a heavy deployment of police personnel has been stationed in the area.

Kapil Burman a social activist told our news agency that crime should not be seen with a communal lens and immunity should not be given to criminals or else we are moving towards a scenario that is presently seen in our neighbouring countries.
