Following heavy snowfall of up to three feet in the Rajouri–Kandi–Budhal belt of Jammu and Kashmir, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) carried out a swift and coordinated snow clearance operation to restore a vital road link in the strategically important Pir Panjal region. The operation ensured early resumption of essential civilian and defence movement.

Round-the-clock snow clearance in harsh conditions
The task was undertaken by 110 RCC of 31 BRTF under Project Sampark. Despite difficult terrain and extreme weather conditions, BRO personnel worked round the clock to clear the snow-blocked route. A single-lane road was opened within 14 hours, allowing controlled movement of civilians and emergency services.
35 km stretch fully restored within 24 hours
The road was subsequently fully cleared and widened over a stretch of approximately 35 kilometres within 24 hours. This rapid restoration was crucial to maintaining connectivity in the snowbound region, particularly for remote villages dependent on the route for essential supplies and medical access.
Ensured defence and civilian movement
The operation ensured uninterrupted movement of defence convoys as well as civilian traffic, underlining the importance of the road for both strategic and public use. Officials highlighted the strong civil-military coordination that enabled the timely completion of the mission.
